AFL; it’s back!

We’re half way through March and that means pre-season AFL matches are concluding and the Premiership season is about to commence.

Footy. Is. Back.

The entire city of Melbourne is absolutely buzzing with excitement and waiting in anticipation as to what the season will bring us. There’s nothing quite like Saturday night football at the home of AFL – the MCG – with tens of thousands of people creating a level of atmospheres during the biggest matches that go unparalleled. After 2016 ending in such emphatic fashion – the Western Bulldogs winning the Grand Final after being underdogs throughout the entire final season – AFL lovers and fanatics cannot wait until round one to cheer on their team.

There are always consistent performers every year and one can never go past the likes of Geelong, Hawthorn and Sydney when it comes to who will be there on that first Saturday in October. However, this time around there will be some fresh faces and fresh teams to take over the spotlight; some already have! Greater Western Sydney have a team full of youthful exuberance and will no doubt be a lot of people’s choice for winning ultimate glory.

Clubs like West Coast and Adelaide play an explosive brand of football and will be challenging those above them for ladder position. As well as this, younger teams like Melbourne, St Kilda and Collingwood have a very good chance of seeing the other side of a miserable few years and hopefully start their era of successes.

Unfortunately for teams like Brisbane, Carlton and the Gold Coast, it could be year full of frustrations and disappointment. However, on the bright side, supporters are able to keep a keen eye on the rookies that will be blooded throughout the year and have something to look forward to as they build towards sustained success.
