It’s no surprise that one of the most common questions we get asked by travelling sports fans is, ‘What Sports are on in New York City?’
It’s not surprising for 2 reasons. Firstly, according to CN Traveller, New York City was the 6th most visited city in the world in 2015. At any given time there are loads of people either visiting, or planning their next trip to this amazing city. Secondly, you simply cannot visit New York City without checking out some New York Sporting events! Times Square and the Guggenheim can wait…
It’s also a question that is close to my heart, as this was the same trip that Adrian (a SWiAM Co-founder) and I went on with our (now) wives, which initially sparked the idea for Sports Where I Am. Every time we get asked this question, my mind drifts back to this awesome experience.
Anyway, you are not reading this for it’s sentimentality, so let’s get to the point. Depending on what floats your boat, there is always a sport to see in NYC. In terms of the Major Leagues, the seasons run as follows:
Baseball (MLB): April-November. NY Teams: New York Yankees, New York Mets
Basketball (NBA): November-June. NY Teams: New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets
Hockey (NHL): November-June. NY teams: New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils
Football (NFL): September-February. NY Teams: New York Giants, New York Jets
Soccer (MLS): March-December. NY Teams: New York City FC, New York Red Bulls
The end of October-Start of November is the sweet spot where you may be lucky enough to catch games from each of the 5 major leagues. I’d suggest to start building some reasons why you must visit during this time.
Of course, if you ever want to see exactly what games are on during your upcoming trip to NYC, it’s best to simply review the NYC page on Sports Where I Am.
Hope this helps! I’m jealous of all of you…
